According to the American Dietetic Association, "appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases"

This statement seems to be in keeping with my own thoughts and observations and many people that I know practice some form of a vegetarian type diet in their daily lives.

The reason that I say "some form of a vegetarian type" is not meant to be deliberately confusing. It is because I know a lot of people who are not full on vegetarians, but still know the value of this kind of diet.

There are many people today who decide to have a "meat free" day or days, once a week. There is a perceived or real feeling of wellbeing associated with a reduced meat intake, so the American Dietetic Association's recent statement may well reinforce this feeling and belief.

Having these meat free days may be a good opportunity to eat out and to find a good local vegetarian or vegan restaurant. We have added a new specialist restaurant directory on to help you to find good establishments, wherever you may live in the world.
